The Situation
AT&T requires all employees to review the
corporate ethics policy annually. Throughout the organization
this happens in a variety of ways. At the AT&T Billing Control
Office in Maitland, Florida, a single individual was delivering
live presentations at least 13 times a year to ensure that all
employees were adequately given this information. The majority
of these sessions were conducted in a single month to provide
the comprehensive annual review to all employees; the other
sessions were scattered to deliver the information to newly
hired employees.
The Solution
To ensure a consistent message and to reduce
the effort required to deliver the corporate policy, we created
a web-based application for the AT&T intranet. Called COCO -
Code of Conduct Online, this application uses voice actors
to deliver the content with the key information highlighted on
the screen. Photographs keep the pages interesting and help
support the page's content. In a few key places, we use video,
including an introduction and a conclusion by the person who had
regularly delivered this program. In addition, there are short
self-check quizzes to help the learner think about the ethical
dilemmas they might encounter in their own work environment.
On the next five pages you will see example
screens for COCO. These are not fully functional web pages, but
rather pictures of the actual program pages.
